Metronome for Pranayama
I was recently on a training with Gregor Maehle and he used a metronome to pace the breathing in pranayama practice. Works great when you are counting with your fingers. It makes sure you keep the same count pace throughout and for different elements. For instance you might subconsciously speed up the count during a kumbaka. You can download apps if you have a smart phone or even use a electronic metronome, but if you are like me and still in a time warp you might find this mp3 that I made useful. It is a one beat per second click (60 bmp) with a cymbal to indicate 10, 20 and 30 minutes. I think I have set the pitch so that it is not irritating. The track is 30 min long. I found this really useful when doing nadi shodhana. We were also using a 40 bmp for bastrika with a two count inhale and two exhale, so if you think that would be helpful leave a comment and I can post that as well.
